Form Builder/Setter, Structures

The Form Builder/Setter, Structures will be responsible for constructing built in place or prefabricated wooden forms for molding concrete structures associated with, but not limited to, the construction of highways, roadways, bridges, and culverts.

Essential Functions:

• Read and understand blueprints, diagrams, and specifications to determine type and dimensions of forms to be constructed.
• Safely sawing and nailing of lumber together, to blueprint dimensions, to create form panels, stakes, bracing, and other form related items.
• Erect build-in-place forms, or assemble and install prefabricated forms, on construction site according to blueprints using task required hand tools and equipment.
• Insert spreaders and tie rods between opposite faces of form to maintain specified dimensions.
• Anchor and brace forms to fixed object using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks, and timbers.
• Assist with the placement, finishing, rubbing, and patching of placed concrete.
• Comply with all company safety procedures and policies while embracing a safety culture and mindset.
• Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
• Ability to read and comprehend project blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
• At least 2 years’ experience in heavy civil construction to include, but not limited to, concrete structures such as bridges, cast-in-place culverts, and retaining walls.
• Ability and willingness to travel as required.
• Must be able to pass E-Verify and pre-employment drug test.
• Must have reliable transportation to get to and from the assigned jobsite daily.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas.
• Physically capable of completing assigned tasks and moving about from one worksite to another.
• Ability to safely operate required hand and power tools and equipment.
• Constantly perform repetitive motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
• Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help.
• Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.

Job Duties:

• Performs a variety of activities, of a physical nature, including but not limited too;
• Site Clean up, daily, with or without direction
• Hand dig, grade, pick and shovel work
• Demolition work, with/without power and/or air tools
• Carry, place and tie rebar
• Help build, place and set forms
• Place concrete
• Generally work as directed, by Form Setters, Foremen, or Superintendent
• Other related duties

Position leads and directs a crew of hourly workers according to Company’s policies and applicable laws on Highway Heavy/Civil Concrete Structure/Repair projects.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Properly follow and enforce all Company policies.
• Ensure a safe, clean work environment and use disciplinary actions as needed to maintain safety at all times.
• Lead and document daily JSA and General Safety meetings.
• Ability to motivate work force, lead effectively through example and communicate effectively.
• Report to management and document any accidents/incidents or injuries immediately.
• Must be able to read and understand blueprints.
• Basic surveying skills, set up transit/ level and shoot line and grade at a minimum.
• Basic, SAFE, equipment operation.
• Familiarity with generally accepted construction specifications, means and methods.
• Work with management to determine and coordinate required labor, equipment, and material resources for the project.
• Manage production so as to remain on budget and schedule, anticipating project needs to avoid delays or disruptions.
• Help management develop and maintain a weekly schedule and work plans.
• Work closely and communicate effectively with the Management.
• Review/approve weekly timesheets prior to submission to Payroll Clerk.
• Evaluate work force to recognize and develop future supervisors.
• Provide positive safety leadership, ensuring project participants adhere to all applicable federal, state, local, company, and project specific requirements.
• Provide positive environmental leadership; understand and manage environmental permits and regulations.
• Work with management to develop and submit timely pay estimates to project owners.
• Work with management to determine and coordinate required labor, equipment, and material resources for the project.
• Monitor and report applicable monthly quantities through time on project.
• Keep management informed of project progress and/or concerns.
• Promote effective communication.
• Manage conflicts toward a productive end.
• Work/Communicate effectively with Project owner, General Contractor, subcontractors, and the general public.
• Nominal computer and cell phone skills, email, texts, MS office products, Word and Excel, etc.
• Basic math skills.
• Travel as required.

Physical Demands:

• Work outside safely in all types of weather conditions, including adverse, 12 months of the year.
• Manual dexterity to manipulate equipment controls, hand and power tools, forms, rigging, etc.
• Lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 70 pounds on a regular basis.
• Able to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl as required.
• Ability to walk on uneven surfaces including natural or disturbed soils/materials in varying weather conditions.
• Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus, by natural or enhanced (glasses/contacts) means.

Job Requirements, meeting all of the above and:

• Full time salaried position, typically M-F 10 hours a day, Saturdays occasionally, as required.
